The Heron’s Pine is inspired by visits to Peter Chan’s bonsai nursery Herons Bonsai in Surrey, UK, and the beautiful trees I have seen there. Made by welding, this metal tree sculpture is presented in the classic S-shape. I have kept the main branches on the upper section of the tree to enhance the elegant bonsai-style twist in the trunk. It is handcrafted from reclaimed and recycled metals with unique bark texture and gnarled knots that are characteristic of a real-life bonsai. It stands on an open metal channel base and is applied with a matt lacquer finish.
